Castle Excavation180 viewsOn the Plattenberg on a hilltop this excavation is underway to uncover the ruins of a small castle. Only a small portion of the castle has been uncovered but there are some speculative sketches of what it may have looked like. The location seemed odd to me as it was not at the highest peak in the area nor did it command a strategic location. The ruins date from the mid 1200's. The casle was built mostly of red sandstone - much of which was likely pilfered to make the homes and foundations of buildings in Kleinwallstadt.

Bahnhof151 viewsThe train station at Kleinwallstadt appears to have been converted to apartments. It has been surmised that with the automation of ticket vending the station may no longer have been necessary. The train from Aschaffenburg stops here.Jul 29, 2006

Neuer Friedhof Kleinwallstadt192 viewsNew cemetery in Kleinwallstadt. Many Rittger's and other descendants of Christmann Rittger are buried in this cemetery. I visited this site four times on my trip and was amazed at the attention and care that is given to the upkeep of each grave. Relatives regularly visit the graves to water the flowers, trim the foliage and keep things tidy. Every time I visited there were 2-3 other people or families maintaining their loved one's plot.Jul 29, 2006
